Artist Statement

After a career as a photo producer who has dabbled in behind the scenes film production, I am interested to move behind the lens to share my own message, not just facilitate the creativity of other artists. Inspired by the environmental sciences classes I took in college and drawing from my own experiences during the California wildfires of 2020, as well as my volunteer efforts at the Raritan Watershed Organization, my films aim to show the devastation that climate change and plastic pollution have wrought on our environment. Educating the public through a visual medium, in a way that sets individual lifestyle adjustments and empowers people to make changes in their every day lives, is the ultimate goal for my filmmaking. If my filmmaking leads to broader community formation and engagement, I will view that as the pinnacle of artistic success. As a documentary film maker, I aspire to connect education with storytelling, in a way that leaves viewers informed, and inspired to make a change. I believe that educational filmmaking can be impactful on both macro and micro levels. I hope my works serves to challenge viewers to reassess the way they view both their own role in environmental conservational, and the role and responsibility of governmental agencies and corporations.  Leading people to reflect on the impact of political and economic structures that shape the ways in which people learn to consume and the way they measure personal and economic success will also be a primary focus of my work. I have confidence that viewers can be inspired to make personal changes and be called into activism, through genuine emotional connection to documentary film.
